Video projects

A well-produced video can be a powerful tool, but costs can quickly balloon. During my time at YouScience, my team and I created a wide range of videos to highlight our products, illustrate their value, and amplify customer and user voices—all while working within a tight budget.

Walk-throughs for students

These two videos were made to be bookends to each other meant to keep a middle/high school student’s attention and give vital product information. We worked with a small tight crew of a local videographer for filming and produced both with a single day of filming each a few months apart. The first video is for a student to watch before taking the tests and the second is to help walkthrough the results. I had so much fun building the props for the second video.

My role in the videos:

  • Director

  • Casting

  • Co-script writer

  • Storyboarding

  • Prop-building

  • Light color editing

  • Proofing

Customer voice and student impact videos

For these videos I got the opportunity to travel and meet the people our product was having an impact on and help tell their unfiltered stories. With my copywriter, the person who owned the relationship, and myself we made a quick strike team to film these videos on location ourselves. The ability to build these real stories really helped bring the human element into our website, sales processes, and conferences.

My role in the videos:

  • Director

  • Filming

  • Editing

  • Proofing

  • Lighting

  • Production setup

  • Audio engineer

There are many more videos and examples of these customer stories over on the companies YouTube channel, but I felt that these four really help capture what was possible with a three-man team, video camera, and some good mics.

Animated videos

Live action filming is not always the best choice for a given topic and depending on the situation can be more costly to try and produce than live action. So for these videos I worked with a contract animator to create videos for product launches and walkthroughs.

My role in the videos:

  • Director

  • Co-script writer

  • Storyboarding

  • Proofing

  • Managing deadlines

  • Voice over casting

  • Audio recording (on the second lower budget video)

Key takeaways from these projects

Through each of these projects I got to expand the YouScience video brand. I was able to experience and do almost every aspect of creating one of these videos from writing scripts to actually directing and filming. Our style became more refined over the two years we focused on video, resulting in a large library of content to educate customers and support product sales.
